Show Up!
Show Up!

Picture this: you’re sitting in the dark at Darling Quarter Theatre, the lights haven’t even come up yet, and you genuinely have no idea what’s about to happen. Could be a Broadway star. Could be a drag icon. Could be some kid nobody’s heard of yet who’s about to steal the whole night. That’s the deal with Show Up! and honestly, it’s the most fun I’ve had describing a press release in months.

Launching Monday 19 October 2026 at Darling Quarter Theatre, Show Up! is the brainchild of Australian entertainer and producer Nick Hardcastle, a guy who’s spent almost twenty years building live entertainment experiences across London, LA, and back home in Australia. His pitch is simple and a little chaotic in the best way: throw music, comedy, cabaret, circus, conversation, established stars, and total wildcards onto one stage, once a month, and see what happens.

“When Nick calls, the stars Show Up,” goes the tagline. And based on the guest list so far, that’s not just marketing spin. Previous nights have pulled in Phil Burton (Human Nature), Jason Arrow (Hamilton), Tyrone Noonan (George), Catherine Alcorn, plus regulars Nikki Webster and her dancers. This isn’t a show trying to be variety entertainment, it’s an actual revival of the format Australian telly used to do so well, dragged back into a room where you can feel it live.
Night One Is Going Big: A Priscilla Reunion Twenty Years in the Making

If you’re going to relaunch a genre, you might as well open with fireworks. The debut night is throwing a 20th Anniversary Tribute to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,  arguably Australia’s biggest theatrical export ever, with original cast members Tony Sheldon, Marney McQueen, and Genevieve Lemon stepping back into the spotlight. If you were anywhere near Australian musical theatre in the 2000s, this is the kind of lineup that makes you check your calendar twice.

Here’s the part I actually love: Show Up! isn’t just built for audiences, it’s built as a lifeline for the scene itself. Sydney’s live entertainment world has been hungry for exactly this kind of community, a stage where performers already working across the city, plus touring artists passing through, can see each other’s work, promote their own shows, and land in front of a completely new crowd.

There’s even a discovery pipeline built in: the Show Off! segment, hosted by Nicky NoPants, is where emerging talent gets thrown into the spotlight alongside the big names, with prizes on the table. And because every show is filmed multicam and pushed to YouTube afterward, it’s not just a one-night thing, performers get content they can actually use, and producers and brands get a genuine platform to extend their reach.

Mark Your Calendar (Yes, All of It) Show Up! isn’t a one-off, it’s setting up shop as a proper monthly fixture at Darling Quarter Theatre, always on a Monday:

  • Monday 19 October 2026 — Launch night, Priscilla 20th Anniversary Tribute
  • Monday 16 November 2026
  • Monday 14 December 2026
  • Monday 11 January 2027
  • Monday 8 February 2027
  • Monday 8 March 2027
  • Monday 5 April 2027

If you’re the kind of traveller or local who likes a night out with a bit of unpredictability baked in — where the person next to you might be a Hamilton lead one minute and a drag legend the next, this is the one to book. Grab your ticket, show up, and let Nick handle the surprises.
