Celebrate Year of the Snake this Lunar New Year at The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre, where its iconic Lucky Prawn restaurant will be dishing up a special banquet menu, as well as traditional Lion Dance entertainment at two key seatings within the LNY festive period.
Lunar New Year Banquet and Yum Cha
Bookings for lunch and dinner seatings from Wednesday 29 January to Saturday 1 February will have the option to indulge in a special banquet menu, featuring delights like Prawn Toast, Prawn Wontons, XO Pippies and Snake Beans – with each dish curated and crafted to celebrate the flavours of the season. Lucky Prawn will also be hosting their beloved monthly Yum Cha from 11am-3pm on Sunday February 2nd, which features Lucky Prawn’s Cantonese favourites like Sweet & Sour Pork, Special Fried Rice, Sang Choi Bao and a host of other classics.
Jin Wu Koon Lion Dancers
The Jin Wu Koon Lion Dancers will be bringing some good luck and good fortune along with their drums and cymbals as they perform over the weekend providing an authentic Lunar New Year experience. (7pm Thurs 30 Jan & 3pm Sun 2 Feb).
Director of Lucky Prawn, Nic Wong says, “Lunar New Year always brings to mind seafood – lots of it. Whole crabs, live prawns, steamed oysters, whole fish, clams. I’ve spent countless nights in Chinatown, whether with family, friends, or work colleagues, soaking in the buzz of the area. The late-night visits to Golden Century or Superbowl were an exciting tradition for me as a kid, and the sight of lion dancers and the sound of firecrackers would light up the streets. My brother and I would scramble to find the ones that hadn’t gone off yet – seems dangerous now, but it felt magical back then. Each food item has its own symbolic meaning, and we make sure to incorporate as much of it as possible. Whole fish for prosperity, dumplings for wealth, noodles for longevity and happiness, and fresh fruit for fullness and wealth.”
Hawke’s Lucky Lager: Brewed in partnership with Lucky Prawn (using cooked rice from the LP kitchen!) will be Hawke’s Lucky Lager – a crisp, dry rice lager with light bitterness and a zesty finish, pairing perfectly with the restaurant’s seafood and fried favourites. Hawke’s Lucky Lager will be pouring on tap at the BHBLC public bar throughout Lunar New Year and the weeks following.
