Lonely Planet is excited to launch its Experience series, a totally new range of guidebooks designed to turn travel on its head.

These innovative guides are designed for a new generation of savvy travellers looking for a more interactive experience with a new size and style.

Led by local experts with on-the-ground perspectives, the series help travellers uncover new ways to get away from the everyday.

Filled with unforgettable experiences and interesting local surprises, travellers can ‘dip in and dip out’ to experience travel with a difference.

Based in Melbourne, Chris Zeiher, Senior Director of Trade Sales & Marketing for Lonely Planet Publications, was a Series Creator and has been closely involved in the development of the series:

“We’re calling these the ‘anti-guidebook’ as they are so different to anything else!” He comments. “It’s an exciting new launch for Lonely Planet and combines our many years of travel guide expertise with the knowledge and understanding of how people now want to travel and digest information.”

The guides get to the heart of the destination with under the radar places, secret destinations and in-depth articles written by local experts, not just travel writers.

Chris Zeiher adds: “The new Experience Guides are designed for today’s traveller and are based on research that identified what travellers want – being able to guide their trip, being surprised with fresh takes on well-known places and being able to connect with their destination through authentic, memorable experiences.”

Each guide allows pre-trip and in-trip decision making with extra content available online if you choose; you can be the master of your journey and travel story.

Inside each handy guide, there’s:

  • curated experiences
  • interesting listings
  • practicality pages with easy-to-use infographics and icons
  • pull-out city maps
  • seasonal planning calendars, destination trip builders
  • inspiring photography
  • QR codes to unlock additional online content
  • Plus, a back cover pocket to store travel mementos and notes.

The first collection focuses on six major and popular destinations: Japan, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, and Iceland. 29 new destinations will also be launched throughout 2022, including world regions, cities, and countries.

“It’s all about the experience, and many of these are un googleable”, Chris adds. “We can’t wait for people to discover a new way to be part of the Lonely Planet experience. With travel back on the agenda, these new guides will have you getting away from the everyday and inspiring you to get out and experience even more.”
