In a move to champion women’s sports and further amplify the rapidly growing popularity of basketball in Australia, Foot Locker is proud to announce its partnership with the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) for the 2024-25 season. This partnership underscores Foot Locker’s unwavering commitment to supporting female athletes, empowering future generations and fuelling the passion for basketball at every level.
To celebrate the partnership, Foot Locker will host the WNBL season launch at its new “Foot Locker Reimagined” concept store in Australia, located in Melbourne Central on Wednesday 23 October. Players from each team will participate in a special media and fan event, sharing their favourite Foot Locker memories and sneaker stories, reflecting on their basketball journeys and offering their predictions for the upcoming season.
Throughout the WNBL season, Foot Locker’s iconic branding will be prominently featured across various touchpoints, including digital platforms, in-stadium branding, and promotional campaigns. Fans can expect to see Foot Locker’s presence through exclusive game-day activations, LED signage, and floor decals at every WNBL match, reinforcing their integral role in supporting the league.
“I’m really excited to see Foot Locker stepping up as a major partner for the WNBL,” said Bec Cole, reigning WNBL and NBL1 National Champion and captain of the Southside Flyers. “In the NBL1, we always push hard to win the ‘Foot Locker Player of the Week’ voucher because we are such sneakerheads. I can’t wait to see how Foot Locker elevates our league and inspires even more motivation in current and future players.”
As part of the new partnership, Foot Locker will receive significant media exposure with activity and promotions during every WNBL game broadcast. Foot Locker will also be extensively featured on the WNBL’s website, in email marketing campaigns, and across a dedicated social media series. Foot Locker will also explore fan engagement through game-day activations, including exclusive voucher giveaways and integration into the prestigious WNBL awards program.
“Partnering with the WNBL is a natural extension of Foot Locker’s dedication to basketball globally and in the Pacific region,” said Natalie Ellis, Vice President and General Manager of Foot Locker Asia Pacific. “We’ve been deeply ingrained with the basketball community for years, and this investment ensures that the WNBL and its athletes will receive the visibility and recognition they deserve. Through this partnership, Foot Locker celebrates the extraordinary talent within the WNBL while also inspiring the next generation of female basketball talent.”
Christy Collier-Hill, Head of the WNBL, shared her enthusiasm: “We are excited to welcome Foot Locker as a major partner of the WNBL. Their dedication to basketball in Australia mirrors our ambition to elevate the game and provide a platform for our athletes to shine. This partnership will not only boost the visibility of the league but also create unique opportunities for fans to engage with the sport. We look forward to working together to make a lasting impact on women’s basketball in Australia.”
This partnership follows Foot Locker’s recent sponsorship of the Australian men’s national team, the Boomers and its longstanding support of the NBL, NBL1, Australian Junior Championships, Schools Championships, U18s Club Championships and globally recognised streetball event Summer Jam. Through these partnerships, Foot Locker remains dedicated to celebrating and fostering basketball culture across all levels, from local courts to the national stage.
