Saturday 16 August 2025. The day the Shire faithful witnessed not one, but two, incredible games from our beloved Cronulla Sharks. The sun was shining on Shark Park for a double-header clash against the Gold Coast Titans, and the teams did not disappoint. The atmosphere was electric, and from this honorary supporter’s perspective, it was a day that truly reminded you what being a part of this community is all about.

The day kicked off with the NRLW team, and what a game it was. A real tough, gritty affair that showed the heart and character of our ladies. It was a proper arm-wrestle, but in the end, it was a tale of two halves. The Sharks got on the scoreboard with a second-half try to none other than fullback Emma Verran. Emma is a star on the rise, and her sharp running game and support play are a huge asset to the team. The Sharks held on for a nail-biting 12-8 victory, showing their defensive steel right to the final siren.

Then came the big boys. In their stunning Indigenous Round jerseys, the men’s team came out with a point to prove. And they did it in style! It was an absolute demolition job, and it all started with a touch of class from our main man, Nicho Hynes. He was first to score for the Sharks, chasing down his own perfectly weighted grubber kick to plant the ball in the in-goal. Nicho, as we all know, is pure class, and he put on a clinic, pulling the strings all game and scoring a double himself.

The Sharks ran riot, piling on points and turning the game into a highlight reel for the fans. While the tries came thick and fast from a host of players, the final try of the day, sealing the 54-22 victory, went to Sione Katoa, scoring his second for the match. Sione has been in phenomenal form on the wing all season, and his ability to find the line is a joy to watch. He’s one of those players you just know is going to be there when the team needs him, and that’s exactly what he did.

After the dust settled and the final siren rang, it was an absolute thrill to be invited back to the sheds to celebrate with the team. A massive thank you has to go out to Quest Apartment Hotels, who made this incredible experience possible. Being there, seeing the raw emotion and the camaraderie among the players, is something you just don’t get from the grandstand. It’s moments like these that strengthen the bond between the club and its fans.
