Starting the New Year with a bang, the month-long festival kicks off on the 1st of January and will run through to the 31st of January and see 18 YCK Laneways encourage punters to head into the CBD over the Summer break.
Highlights from the festival include Live Painting by Luke Abdallah at Kabul Social. Luke is a blind artist of Middle Eastern heritage who uses music and dance to create incredible artworks through rhythm and sounds. Sydneysiders are invited to watch Luke create an incredible live painting while listening to Afghani music. Other must-do features live music at Jolene’s – catch performances from the award-winning country, rock, western, southern and blues musicians, jazz performances at The Swinging Cat and Stitch Bar, an Auslan-interpreted comedy night at Papa Gede’s and a killer lineup of DJ sets at Since I Left You.
Summer Love will see YCK Laneways partner with comedian and producer Robyn Reynolds to curate an amazing line-up of performers with lived experience of disability, and chronic illness.
Vice President of YCK Laneways Karl Schlothauer said, “Sydney is one of the best places in Australia to celebrate summer. We’ve got great weather, amazing places to eat and drink and Summer Love has a load of events for you to enjoy.”
“We couldn’t be prouder to be working with Robyn on the festival. Grab your pals and come into the city – support your favourite small bars and the talented performers that we’re playing host to.”
To coincide with the festival, YCK are thrilled to launch their very own web-based interactive 3D map of the precinct. Throughout the festival, visitors are encouraged to collect tokens via QR codes in-venues by purchasing a meal or one of the bespoke cocktails that have been created in partnership with Bacardi-Martini. Tokens can also be collected by attending an event. Guests are then able to redeem rewards by scanning the QR code in-venue.
Summer Love is proudly funded by the City of Sydney’s Precincts and Activations Grant and supported by Bacardi-Martini, with featured brands including Patrón Tequila, Grey Goose Vodka, Bombay Sapphire and Bacardi Rum. With a range of free and ticketed events on offer, bookings are strongly recommended to secure your spot.
