Ready to Heat Up in Mammoth Lakes

New restaurants, lodging options and summer highlights

There’s never been a shortage of things to do, see, eat, drink and experience during the summer months in the Eastern Sierra. While some things, like the jaw-dropping scenery… don’t get old, there’s also quite a bit of new for visitors to Mammoth Lakes this summer.

Where to eat?

The Eatery by Bleu at Mammoth Brewing Company’s tasting room has quickly becomes a favourite of visitors and local alike. Brewed at a uniquely high elevations, MBC’s beers benefit with a uniquely smooth flavour. While beer will always be the star of the show, The Eatery serves up a sophisticated menu designed to excellently. Menu items include Shrimp and Bacon Beignet, Char Siu Grilled Pork Belly Sandwiches and Braised Short Ribs on creamy polenta.

53, Mammoth’s newest eatery in the heart of the village, is an all-day affair. Fuel up for a day in the mountains with a good breakfast, and cap it off it with an artisanal cocktail and a selection from a diverse dinner menu. It is also a hot destination for live music and entertainment.

What to do?

The Mammoth Mountain Bike Park has several new and improved trails for the newbie and novice mountain bikers. Three beginner trails, an intermediate trail and all new skills park combine with a designated lift to provided an intro to the sport unavailable anywhere else in the country.

The Eleven53 Interpretive Centre is expanding in its second summer. Visitors learn about the natural and cultural history of Mammoth Lakes and the Easter Sierra. Admission is free with a scenic gondola ride ticket, bike park ticket or a valid season pass.

The Pokonobe Resort has been serving its guests for 50 plus years, is now being catered by Bleu Handcrafted Foods. Set on the shores of Lake Mary, just outside the town of Mammoth Lakes, Pokonobe offers boat rentals, a marina, gathering space and general store to stock up for an Eastern Sierra Adventure.

What’s on?

Mammoth Lakes Film Festival will screen over 50 movies from 27 – 31 May. With film ranging from the thought-provoking to the mindlessly entertaining, festival goers will have a chance to get up close and personal some of the best up-and-coming filmmakers.

The Mammoth Food + Wine experience from 26 – 27 June. Pairing excellent wine with outstanding cuisine from the Eastern Sierra and beyond the two day celebration includes demonstrations, tasting and culinary competitions, all in the name of charity.

USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships returns for the first time in decades, from 14 – 19 July. Bringing together the country’s best downhill and cross-country mountain bikers.

The Hwy 395 Bon & Burger Battle is a new event teamed up with Fathead Productions to provide a dual battle of the arts: one in food and one in music, 17 – 18 July at the Village. In the weeks leading up to teh burget battle, band from the Estern Sierra will compete in various venues for the public’s vote. The winner will open the music show after the Burger Battle on Sat evening. The burger winner will go to the 2015 World Championships in Kissimmee, Florida. Epic adventure!

Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooze celerbrates its 20th anniversary this year. A big annual annuel in the name of blues for a four day party. set your dates for 30 July – 2 Aug.
