Husband and wife dynamic duo Nick Stone and Aparna Gehlot are definitely not new kids on the popular Potts Point block. They (and their loyal locals) are thrilled to unveil the new addition to their beloved venue La Bomba with the launch of Sopra Bar and Restaurant.

Nick and Aparna have a collective 28 years in hospitality under their belts so it comes as no surprise that their new joint venue will be as epic. With Chef Nick (previously Mona and Hugo’s) ensuring the kitchen brigade delivers the delicious meals and Aparna (with her business savvy) taken the reins of front of house.

So why Sopra? “The inspiration came to open Sopra because we felt the need for a while to have a proper bar offering for our guests. We just didn’t have the space at La Bomba to create what we wanted and wanted to up the ante on our wine and cocktails list and this is the perfect space to do so.”

The interiors and fitout at the new space are inspired by European luxe juxtaposed with contemporary styles – combining elegance and pure comfort was paramount.

Sopra is located at the end of charming Potts Point and their offering is for patrons to come to a cozy place for cocktails/wine and small food. A great place to relax with a drink and snacks without having to order full meals.

Sopra’s menu is built around Spanish influences and small tapas style share plates. Guests will be delighted to find the menu filled with flavourful dishes that can be enjoyed alone or shared amongst many.

With hero dishes such as white fish crudo with pickle chilli and tajin spice (one of the team’s favourites) alongside more substantial dishes (for those who want a little heartier sized meal or to share amongst two) like their lamb rump with cracked wheat pomegranate salad with quince aioli.

The menu is in a word – droolworthy. With impeccable fresh seafood (Appellation Sydney rock oysters, roasted Yamba prawns and trout caviar with pepe saya crème fraiche to name a few) and a divine charcuterie and cheese offering – the real issue will be deciding what to order!

When asked the inspiration behind Sopra’s extensive wine list, the duo explained they enlisted the best of the best. “The wine list was created by David Kalvo, sommelier for Nomad. During COVID when Nomad was undergoing renovations, he was kind enough to help us carefully curate our wine list. Most of our wines are from Australia”.

The cocktail list too, was thoughtfully created to match back with their menu yet also offer a flavour hit for any customer and vibe. “Our cocktails were created to be seasonal and to provide a drink for every palette (fruity, sour, strong, fizzy). So depending on your mood and the flavors you enjoy – we have created options for absolutely everyone.”
