Snowbound Essentials

We can thank New Zealand for it’s winter season between June and August each year, with average winter temperatures between 0’C and 7’C. Picture frosty mornings, clear blue skies, powder snowfall and lively après-ski culture.

My favourite place to visit is Queenstown, to ski or snowboard and enjoy a range of activities across four international ski field – perfect for beginners to the expert snow bunny taking a heli trip to untouched powder.

Naturally when planning for a snow vacation, you will need the right gear to take with you.

Dragon Mace Powder Snow Goggles are a white polyurethane frame with a green ionized lens. These goggles feature Dragon’s Super Anti Fog dual lens technology which utilizes the same anti-fog chemicals used by NASA for spacecraft windshields and space helmet visors. The result is the strongest anti-fog known to man, lasting twice as long before fogging when compared to competitors. Also offers 100% UV protection. RRP: $129. Available from

When it comes to finding the best gloves for snowboarding or skiing, there’s quite a bit of variety. Seek out different types and see what you prefer. Tip: Mitts tends to be a bit bulkier with more insulation. I prefer the normal five-finger option like the Burton’s Support Glove – waterproof, internal support system and a DRYRIDE fabric (fancy talk for quick dry) and what’s even awesome is the gloves are touchscreen sensitive. No more cold hands, when you need to use your smartphone. RRP $99 available from

I haven’t yet experienced the force of the “So small. So stoked” of the GoPro Hero4 Session, the lightest and tiniest camera to date. But have you ever wanted to mount it on your helmet, attached it to your body or on the end of a selfie stick? Feature wise it can recorded at 1080p video at 60fps, has tow mics – one on the front and one on the back, that automatically switches between themselves depending on wind levels. Price wise it packs a punch at $579.95 on
