A city in the desert. A culture of possibility. A network of dreamers and doers.
Nevada is the well-known home to one of the most loved festivals in the World, Burning Man, which takes place annually in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada in late August early September. But beyond Burning Man there are a number of quirky events to enjoy – from an authentic Rodeo to Burning Man’s country music cousin, A Night in the Country.
Held in the Lyon County Fairgrounds in the tiny town of Yerington in Northern Nevada. This year marks the festival’s fourteenth year, and around 30,000 people are expected to descend on Yerington this July.
The line-up is spread over two stages: the Main Stage and the Full Moon Saloon stage, with headliners including Brantley Gilbert, who was nominated for Billboard Music Awards Top Country Artist and Top Country Album in 2015, and Grammy award winning country vocal group Little Big Town. Other highlights include Mr and Mrs Night in the Country 2015 and the Real Country Campsite Contest.
Is the largest free hot-air ballooning event in the world, with an average of 125,000 spectators attending the event each year. During three days in early September, you can look up into the Reno skies and see a rainbow of hot air balloons soaring about. From its humble beginnings in 1982 with just 20 balloons, The Great Reno Balloon Race has taken flight with up to 100 balloons each year. The idea was to create an event that would keep visitors in town the weekend between the State Fair and the Reno Air Races and 33 years later, it is a world-renowned event, and locally, a beloved community tradition.
The “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West,” the Reno Rodeo is a 10-day event, with over 140,000 fans attending each year. The Reno Rodeo is a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sanctioned sporting event and the fourth richest PRCA tour rodeo.
There’s a full calendar of rodeo events, including pro bull riding events Xtreme Bull Riding Bareback, Saddle and Team Roping to fun rodeo theme nights as well as plenty of family friendly event such as Mutton Bustin’ for mini cowboys and girls aged between five and seven and a Junior Roping challenge.
