Balmain has a new healthy food hot spot with ‘Bowl.R’ and we were allowed to try it before the official opening. ‘Bowl.R’ offers healthy food and drinks, with gluten free and vegan options, but their food is not just healthy, it’s also delicious!
Following on from a successful pop-up in Coogee last summer, BOWL.R now has a permanent home in Sydney’s Inner West. The store offers a modern urban decor appealing to customers looking for a refreshing take on convenient, healthy fast food.
The restaurant is inspired by the Japanese cuisine and their main food product is deconstructed sushi in a bowl. The bowls are loaded with veggies, seaweed and meat of fish. The special thing at ‘Bowl.R’ is though, that you can choose pretty much everything goes into your bowl. The list goes from chicken to yellowfin tuna and vegetarian options such as cauliflower. However, the taste is mostly in the sauce and the restaurant offers various sauces to spice it up.
Another very tasty food product is the so called ‘Vice Cream’. It is dairy, refined sugar and gluten free ice cream. Now, some might think that this will take away all the goodies, but it is surprisingly delicious. The 100% natural Mylk Bar selection is where it is at, made from all real ingredients – nothing artificial – dairy, refined sugar and gluten free.
Enjoy a selection of smoothies including the Bada Bing – banana, coconut flesh, fresh espresso shot, raw cacao and coconut mylk (12). Grab yourself a fresh coconut spiked with a shot of expresso or for the more adventurous activated charcoal. Stay hydrated with Prodjuice cold-pressed juices, Jiva Kombucha or a selection of Rainbow Lattes (5.5) made from all natural ingredients such as beetroot, cacao or turmeric as well as a new take on Bubble Teas (8).
Apart from the vice cream and the bowls, we were able to try the guacamole and hummus with beef at the media launch. We were also able to wash everything down with delicious cocktails. We had a pineapple and gin cocktail and a watermelon and vodka one.
‘Bowl.R’ is definitely worth travelling to Balmain, made to order take-away, casual dine-in, at home or work via UberEats and Deliveroo.
