Recently I left city the surrounds and headed across the bridge to the perfect seaside setting brimmed with fine food and funky booze.

The revamped Dee Why beachfront venue put on a party for its relaunch of the Deck Bar and Dining. Guests were invited to sample a selection of trendy “street food of the Americas”, such as Chimmi Churri Brisket Sliders, Pisco Salmon Ceviche, Empanadas as well as a Pisco tasting and masterclass.

I met Steve Buckles at the bar where I was ordering a Pisco Sour cocktail. I thought he did a great job making the cocktail, I thought I might give it a go. With my non-Tom-Cruise-Cocktail-Flare, I think I did a pretty good job. Steve has taken up the reins as a joint owner and mixologist alongside Dave Mahon to provide exotic flavours, slick cocktails and an awesome vibe.

These guys were refreshing to meet, in-tuned in supporting their local community (proud sponsors of Dee Why Surf Live Saving and Dee Why Surfing Fraternity), the interior designed and artworks inspired by local artist based on the Northern Beaches and weekend beats with live musos and DJ entertainment.

Highlights from the menu
Chimmi Churri Brisket Sliders: chipotle marinated & twice cooked brisket, chimmi churri grilled on buttermilk slider w/ iceberg, lime mayo & pico de galo.
Pisco Slamon Ceviche: Lime, pisco cured diced salmon tossed w/ tomato, coriander, spanish onion & chilli served w/tostadas.
Empanada: a savoury pastry filled w’ chilean spiced mince, boiled egg and olive.
Young Coconut Fruit Salsa: carved up young coconut filled with lychee, pineapple, mango & passionfruit w’ a spiced orange and lime syrup.

Deck Bar has all the bases covered in terms of daily specials: $7 Taco Tuesday, 50c Spicy Wing Wednesday, 2 for 1 pizza Thursday, the list goes on – with such a varied menu, you don’t need to eat anywhere else. I also hear the breakfast is pretty great, if you’re a little worse for wear.
