Unique flavor combinations

Mozambique Cuisine

Mozambique Cuisine

Any traveler who has visited Africa knows that the country’s cuisine is marked by unique combinations of exploding flavors and abundance of fresh herbs and spices. Heavily influenced by Asian, Arab, Persian and European cuisine, Mozambique’s menu features numerous mouth-watering dishes such as peri peri chicken, matapa, prawns and paõ, and the traditional food preparation procedures are mainly centered on frying, grilling and baking fresh seafood and lean meat coated by mouth-watering seasonings and curries. On top of its delicious taste, local dishes are also a sight for sore eyes, with vivid colors and appetizing textures, so you can both eat your prego roll and have it for as long as you remember to snap a picture of it before you wolf it down. Bon appétit!

Vibrant cultural identity

Mozambique Culture

Mozambique Culture

The culture of Mozambique is characterized by a unique blend of native African customs and foreign influences that have roots in the country’s history marked by intense trade with Europe and Asia. The architecture in Maputo, the country’s capital, best embodies this polarity, with Mediterranean-like city layout interspersed with European-style cafes and restaurants, graceful Portuguese-era buildings with balustrades and balconies, colorful African marketplaces and awkward Marxist-style apartment blocks. In this picturesque land, you can hear people making small talk in several Bantu dialects, Swahili, Chinese, Indian, Arab, Portuguese and English, so language will definitely be a barrier.

Amazing beaches and islands

Mozambique Beaches

Mozambique Beaches

In Mozambique, you will find some of Africa’s most beautiful beaches such as Xai Xai, Wimbi, Uembje Lagoon and Tofo. With pristine, powdery sand and clear azure waters, beaches in Mozambique are still largely unaffected by the hazards of mass tourism, so you can hope to find lots of peace and quiet here, interrupted only by refreshing breezes caressing palm trees and gentle lapping of the ocean waves. If you are adventurous, you can go surfing or snorkeling off the coast, or try exploring the colorful islands in the Bazaruto or Quirimbas Archipelago. (A word of advice: If you intend to use your camera to record your wild beach fun, make sure you process the images for optimal contrast using smart filters and editing tools such as those offered by EyeEm. Sunlight in the country is extremely bright, which can be a real menace for camera lovers, so stay on the safe side and post-edit your photography masterpieces for best visuals.)

A touch of wild Africa

Mozambique Wildlife

Mozambique Wildlife

Though escapists who decide to seek refuge on one of Mozambique’s lovely beaches may not get a chance to see the wild side of this exotic country, tourists who venture further inland will certainly come face to face with Africa’s wildlife. In the Niassa Reserve, in north-west Mozambique, you can see amazing landscapes consisting of woodlands interspersed with dense bushes which are home to lions, elephants, zebras, sable antelopes and buffaloes. The Mozambique islands are an excellent place to go diving and bird watching (watch out for pink flamingos, and film them in action if you chance to see them!). Whether you are hungering after long days in the sun or a daring adventure in a wild tropical forest, Mozambique is definitely your dream-come-true destination. From the appetizing cuisine and vibrant culture, across splendid warm beaches and lovely neighboring islands, all the way to impressive wildlife and marine flora and fauna, this African pearl is a true paradise on Earth. Are you ready for your big Mozambique adventure?
