This year marks 20 years of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
I was very excited when I received a call from the Group General Manager from Helm Bar Sydney and Tempus Two Wines, and was presented with two gold tickets to experience the Weekend Edition that saw me sitting inches from front row of the runway. Total VIP experience included a gift tote bag filled with goodies and access to the Star Lounge for complimentary drinks and canapes pre and post show.
Elite Transporters provided a stunning luxury ride on their brand new BMW 7 Series (shhh-don’t tell Mercedes-Benz), to Sydney’s iconic Carriageworks. This was our fashion fix, as MBFWE offered the best of the best from the exclusive Fashion Week that was held to the industry privy during the week.
The 7pm runway show showcased a variety of fashion forward designers from Bondi Bather, AJE, Steven Khalil, Ellery and Michael Lo Sordo. A collaborative blend of the best outfits from 36 designers, each has shown a touch of elegance, sexyness and almost practical outfits everyday people can wear. We all have different views and looks we like, I enjoyed the colour variation, the tiered chiffon dresses, and the separation of the monochrome and metallic party. Although, I would have loved to have seen more male fashion threads so I can get a start on my wardrobe inspirations.
The models were stunning and had a resting attitude as they walked the runway, the clothes just melts with their fab bodies (totally jealous). I’m an average guy and and like to try different looks that suits my body type – I still think current and new generations designers are getting it right every year. Fashion forward inspiration, or “street style” used loseley by fashion bloggers and stylist, is about making your own statement and creating your individual persona look.
Fashion Week is still an important event for the fashion industry in this country and globally. It is a key launching pad for new designers and established Aussie talents.
Check out my seasons pick from the designers’ collection.
