Known for its rich history and generations of winemaking craftsmanship, iconic Western Australia winery Houghton is introducing a new contemporary range to its stable of award-winning premium wines, Houghton Reserve, and relaunching the exceptional Houghton Wisdom range with a new label and varietal, Pinot Noir.

The Houghton Reserve range epitomises Western Australia’s signature varietals and features a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc (AUD $14.99). The Houghton Wisdom range highlights the unique characters of Western Australia’s finest sub-regions and includes a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (AUD $40).

Houghton Senior Winemaker Ross Pamment, who has been crafting Houghton wines for almost 30 years, says, “Houghton has an enviable winemaking reputation in Western Australia that spans 180 years. Like the 12 Houghton winemakers before the team today, we are committed to crafting wines with meticulous care and forethought, and in a way that brings the unique regional characteristics of the grapes to life, in every glass.”

For a premium quality drop that is effortless to enjoy, Houghton Reserve is the perfect place to start. The Reserve Shiraz is fresh, bright and peppery while the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon promises a full-flavoured red wine with distinctive varietal characteristics of cassis, black olive and blackberry. The Reserve Chardonnay is a fresh and fruit-driven wine displaying beautiful stone fruit and citrus on the palate complemented by subtle oak influences.

Alternatively, the Reserve Sauvignon Blanc welcomes a vibrant and juicy palate with flavours of blackcurrant, lime segments and zesty pink grapefruit. The Reserve range label also features an embellished golden swan which is a nod to Houghton’s origins in the Upper Swan region of Western Australia.

“The Reserve range is contemporary and accessible, and the ideal starting point for people looking to explore the breadth of vibrant flavours and unique expressions that quality West Australian wines, like Houghton, offer,” says Ross.

For a more premium wine experience, the new-look Houghton Wisdom range offers the very best that The West has to offer. Expertly crafted to exemplify the unique terroir of Western Australia’s greatest wine landscapes, the Houghton Wisdom range consists of a Cabernet Sauvignon from iconic Margaret River, along with a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the state’s most exciting emerging wine region, Pemberton.

“We are seeing a trend in Australian consumers moving away from heavily oaked and high-in-alcohol wines and seeking out lighter, fruit-driven styles, like Pinot Noir. While Western Australia isn’t commonly associated with fine Pinot Noir, Pemberton is really starting to make a name for itself and is definitely a region to watch. The Houghton Wisdom Pinot Noir, sourced from Pemberton, is a great example of an exceptional Pinot Noir from the West, delivering that fresh and lighter wine style that’s currently in demand.”
