Hotel Ravesis, one of Sydney’s most iconic beachside establishments, has completed a venue-wide refurbishment with the unveiling of 12 redesigned boutique rooms and suites. An ode to mid-century chic and the beachside playgrounds of Cuba and Miami, the reimagined accommodation is now available for reservations.
Located at the geographical heart of Australia’s most famous beach, the four-storey space occupies prime position on the corner of Campbell Parade and Hall Street, remaining the only hotel in Bondi to offer sweeping ocean views. A recent renovation saw Hotel Ravesis’ bars, restaurant and upper terrace brought to new life in stunning effect, with vibrant hues of white and flamingo pink highlighting the floor to ceiling arched doors and windows, dating back to 1914.
On its upper two levels, the heritage listed building houses a collection of rooms and suites including the Beachfront King, a spacious open plan room with uninterrupted views of the water, framed by original art-deco arches; the Hall Suites, which offer side ocean views from historic Juliet balconies and The Loft, complete with a wraparound entertaining terrace affording a private vantage point of Bondi’s iconic shoreline.
Styling by interior designer Carina Hicks echoes the coastal aesthetic of the beachside destination, imbued with mid-century forms. Pieces from Australian makers, VELA Living and MCM House have been customised in fabrics to reflect the iconic palette. Luxurious king and queen beds draped in crisp, white linen are offset with fabric headboards in 60’s patterns or plush velvet and gold finishes. Walls are hung with works by local artist Daimon Downey and line drawings from Mel Vugich that document scenes from Bondi life. The hotel design continues to pay homage to the look and feel of eras gone by, with photography by Akila Berjaoui capturing the allure of international beachside playgrounds of the 1970s, and vintage- style Marshall radios in every room.
Every detail has been thoughtfully conceived as a nod to the location, including bathrooms stocked with Vanessa Megan Organic Skincare products, a local who began selling her wares at Bondi Markets. The hotel mini bar is packed with premium offerings including a bespoke blend Archie Rose x Hotel Ravesis gin, Koval Whisky, Fever Tree tonics, Tamari almonds, Whittakers chocolate, classic Italian Pastiglie Leone mints and Marvis Toothpaste.
In room purchases have been exclusively created for Hotel Ravesis by Killanoodle Design with the Bondi lifestyle in mind. Items include silk eye masks in tropical prints, bat & ball sets, Hotel Ravesis branded tote bags and hand-drawn playing cards. Guests will also receive a complimentary illustrated Bondi map, complete with recommendations on where to eat, drink, shop and surf. A 24-hour concierge team is on hand to help with every need, from in-room massages to surfboard storage.
Room service is available from the hotel restaurant, where guests can also enjoy a meal on the sprawling terrace. Here, Head Chef Peter Streckfuss has created a menu based around the finest, local and seasonal produce. Being by the water, the menu is bursting with seafood. Oysters are shucked to order in-house and fish is filleted by hand each day. The menu is brimming with share dishes that draw on a Mediterranean influence, to complement an afternoon drink with a Pacific backdrop.
Representing the ownership, Aya Larkin brings with him a knack for hospitality, commercial acumen and creative prowess.
‘Our hotel rooms haven’t seen such extensive renovation since they were first converted from apartments in 1989. With this renewal we wanted to give our guests a taste of a vibrant beachside lifestyle, while revealing the building’s iconic history and character’ said Larkin. ‘Following the refresh of the restaurant and bar in 2016 we’ve seen huge numbers of locals and visitors through the doors. There’s great vitality in the place and we’re excited to unveil our new rooms to complete the leisure experience’.
Hotel Ravesis has returned as the true heart of Bondi. Relaxed elegance at its best, Hotel Ravesis 12 rooms and suites begin at $285 per weeknight stay and $315 on weekends.
