Holey Moley Darlinghurst

Holey Moley Golf

For anyone that’s never heard of it, Holey Moley Golf Club isn’t your traditional windmill kind of mini-golf. It’s a pop-culture inspired labyrinth of tee shots,  iconic décor and glitzy bars.

With a flagship already in Newtown, Funlab have officially opened a new Holey Moley in Darlinghurst amongst the heart of Sydney’s nightlife.

On Wednesday 9th May, I was invited to the official lavish grand opening. Having never been to their other location before, my friend Marlee and I made our way to the event not knowing what to expect. Tee off was from 7 pm and when we arrived there was a line of people waiting alongside a red carpet. You could tell everyone was excited; the guests were buzzing with anticipation with many dressed in their best golf glam – think plaid, pastels and polo shirts.

After being bestowed with golf visors to complete our attire, we headed upstairs to be greeted by ironically dressed golf caddies offering refreshments and food. Wandering around, it was evident a lot of thought had gone into maintaining the party vibe, with brightly coloured lights, a live DJ and lots of golf-themed décor (golf buggy included).

We collected our clubs from the Pro Shop and headed off to play. It was very crowded so it took us a while to complete all the holes. There are 27 altogether, divided across three courses of creative themes like Pablo Puttcaso, Fresh Putts of Bel Air and Crappy Gilmore.

Throughout the night, the golf caddies offered bites from the Holey Moley menu including waffle fries, Cobb salad, mini hot dogs and my favourite, the pulled pork sliders. But what makes Holey Moley so popular, is that it’s a mini-golf green with a fully licensed cocktail bar. The cocktail on tap for the night was a concoction of Peach Schnapps, Vodka and Apple Juice accompanied by the fizzy goodness of Wizz Fizz and Cloud lollies.

It was an evening of quality entertainment despite my terrible putting and endless golf puns. What’s best about Holey Moley is that it has something for everyone: by day it’s a family-friendly day out and by night, an adult playground taking traditional mini-golf to a glamorous new level.
