If you’re like me and have a yearning to discover more about this incredible country of ours, then you should really check out ‘Girt by Sea’.

The awe-inspiring photography exhibition ‘Girt by Sea’, serves as an important reminder of how incredible and diverse the Australian landscape is and it’s need to be explored.

Australian photographers Tony Hewitt and Denis Glennon AO’s collaborative exhibition comprises of a breathtaking collection of images that capture the stunning 34,500 km Australian coastline.

The exhibition truly brings new meaning to the words ‘girt by sea’.

Intrigued by those three words in the Australian National Anthem, ‘girt by sea’, Hewitt and Glennon set off on a path of discovery. Sponsored by Canon Australia, they spent 31 days in a small plane circumnavigating the Australian and Tasmanian coastline. Resulting in a collection of 100 different aerial images, displaying the vibrancy and beauty that Australia has to offer.

Whilst it could be expected for these images to be more similar than different to each other, each location shows diverseness in character and form that could only be captured authentically through aerial photography. It taps into the ongoing curiosity that many Australians have for our vibrant coastline. The collection itself is displayed in a way that encourages those who view it to be inspired by the variation of colours, textures and forms of the Australian sand and sea.

It might even inspire you to plan a trip to the locations of the stunning images. I know it has for me. As photography is a hobby of mine, the opportunity to capture the diverse Australian landscape would be a dream come true. This exhibition has opened my eyes to viewing Australia in a different way, as aerial photography really is a unique way of capturing an image and something that I’d love to explore.

The exhibition is held at The Gallery at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney between 4th August – 4th September. Free admission, so go and check it out!

Q&A’s with photographers Tony Hewitt and Denis Glennon AO will be shared soon.
