It was the month of chocolate at Novotel’s Sydney Olympic Park. With lots to offer from great accommodation deals and the park turned to the an Easter Eggstravaganza with the Sydney’s Royal Easter Show right next door.
With a mad-hatters theme in mind, I was looking for a bigger theme throughout the hotel. Though, they did have a corner props perfect for any Alice “to-be” in wonderland – great photo opp with the kids.
Where to begin when dining at Boulevard Brasserie & Bar? Well… I started with desserts first, then worked my way back – as it was the month of chocolate. The chocolate cookie pie with a caramel fudge ice-cream is one of the many desserts on offer from the classic sticky date pudding and chilled bread + butter pudding.
All mad-hatter cocktails were not late for this very important date:
Choco-latte: a delicous mug of blended Frangelico, Baileys, Kalhua and cream, shaken with a hint of honey and chocolate flakes. It was like a chocolate milkshake for adults!
Rocking-red Bunny: A delightfully fresh and fruity vodka based cockatils, muddle with berries, citrus and sparkling wine. Perfect for the warmer months and nothing to heavy on the straw.
For the entree’s we decided to take a mixture from the paddock. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked al-dante with a hint of chilli to heighten the palate, the cured salmon was light with packed citrus freshness and the pork belly accompaniments were perfectly matched – though slight shame it didn’t have a crisp crackling top.
Pork Belly with smoked ham hock terrine, sambal mayo, pickled jelly, crisp bread, capers.
Pan Friend Gnocchi with king prawns, chilli butter, wilted spinach.
Vodka Cured Salmon with green pea, salad of citrus, preserved lemon, baby herbs, dill aloe and grilled sour dough.
Mains were definitely on point. With the arancini light and filled with the right hot centred flavours, spatchcock was tender and did enjoy the uniqueness of the pear barley salad, and the rib-eye steak cooked medium-rare/medium.
Crumbed Lentil Arancini served through with buffalo mozzarella, rocket and cherry tomato and salsa verde on the side.
Pan Seared Spatchcock with tomato, spinach + pear barley salad and salsa verde
Cape Grim 350g Rib Eye Steak, with hand cut fondant potato, green beans, pea tangles
