Church Road Wines from Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand for the first time will stock its entire range in Australia. Church Road will showcase it’s halo wine category, the Church Road TOM and launches its official brand book.
Named after the Founder of Church Road Tom McDonald; TOM, was a passionate winemaker and one of the earliest pioneers of quality winemaking in New Zealand. Produced only in outstanding vintages, TOM Wines are of the most exceptional character and quality. Wearing the TOM label is our tribute to one of New Zealand’s great winemaking legends.
TOM Chardonnay is a finely textured, yet full-bodied wine of exceptional character and complexity. Hand harvested and hand sorted from extremely low-cropping blocks on the Tuki Tuki and Omarunui vineyards, this wine is built around a core of fragrant fruit. A very natural, low-intervention approach to winemaking including wild fermentation of unclarified juice and subsequent wild malolactic fermentations in a selection of the finest French oak barrels has overload complexing aromas and flavours.
TOM Syrah; Made from a single small area of Syrah, off the Church Road Redstone Vineyard in the Bridge Pa Triangle, the block was intensively managed by hand to ensure very low crop levels and well-exposed fruit, delivering ripe, intensely flavoured grapes. Along with a sensitive, traditional winemaking approach, this has produced a wine of concentration and richness with an elegant, velvety tannin structure while still retaining the fresh, lifted aromatics Hawke’s Bay Syrah is so well known for.
TOM Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot; This iconic, full-bodied red wine is only produced in exceptional vintages and represents the best that the region can produce. Crafted from grapes hand harvested from low-yielding vineyards on the Gimblett Gravels, this wine was made using traditional winemaking techniques to emphasise the complexity of flavour, aroma, power and elegance on the palate with a structure that provides the wine great ageing potential.
