The restaurant and cafe scene in Sydney’s CBD is flourishing, with every turn your taste buds wet your appetite. We all have different preferences to eating out, what time of day to what we feel like having. Homemade pancakes, Mexican baked eggs, good old-fashion burger, salads, pastas and pizza. The Canopy literally has something to suit every taste.
With a $100 to spend, my flatmate and I decided to give The Canopy a good go. It ticks all the boxes when it comes to satisfying our cravings. Opened seven days a week til’ late, conveniently located in the city but away from the chaos and service is consistently good.
For a Tuesday night, it already had the ‘after-work crowd’ with beer in hand and stories of the day. Inside, it was a slight mix of people, whom are a split of being local patrons from the apartment directly above and tourists.
Below is a taste of what you could order.
Mushroom and Truffle Arancini (v) served with olive tapenade aioli $15
Oven baked Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella topped with rocket and served with sourdough bread $18
Prawn Linguini with cherry tomato, garlic, white wine, chilli and baby spinach $24
Crispy Skinned Barramundi (gf) served with garlic prawns, mediterranean quinoa salad and lemon vinaigrette $34
What I do like about this place, is that the vibe is very chilled and the service is humble. Ever been to a restaurant or a cafe where it is pretty much, “ready to order and will there be anything else” as the bill is brought to you. Feeling much like a number?
Here the vibe is very chilled, but still attentive. Feel free to ask about the specials, ask for directions – that’s what’s Sydney is about. Feeling welcomed. And with food, it is a perfect combination with a nice of glass of wine or cocktail of your choosing.
Getting back to the food. The chef’s are all about quality and the right quantity on your plates. Hallelujah! Normal size plate and plenty of food to keep you comfortable. Although, they do have a nice selection for their entrees, if you want to make room for dessert. I would recommend a light entree or a light main course. We tried to fit in dessert, but we were beaten – for this time, but I will be back.
Don’t forget to check out the specials on the board and on their websites. Weekly specials, $17 express lunch menus, daily dinner specials
