Avoca Valley Bed & Breakfast

Avoca Valley B&B

It was the last week of Autumn here in Sydney and it was time for a road trip to go exploring a place I haven’t been before. There are incredible drives across New South Wales (NSW), to the Blue Mountains, Grand Pacific Drive and the Pacific Coast.

The Central Coast is a stunning area, fresh coastal air and home to a number of picturesque towns including Avoca Beach, Terrigal and Ettalong. An idyllic holiday getaway with the natural beauty of Bouddi National Park close by, local cafes to chill at and quality dining at known restaurants.

Avoca Valley Bed & Breakfast is about 95km (1hr 30mins) north of Sydney’s CBD. Making this the perfect day trip or weekend away, even when the winter blows across the beach. Thanks to Hertz Australia, I picked up my Kia rental car and the carpool karoake began.

Jo and Mick Forster runs the grand home with their adorable two sons. Set on 2.5 acres, the grand home has a large back garden, tea house and a curious brood of chickens.

Luxury boutique comes to mind, with three suites on offer all featuring French doors to a delightful balcony terrace with seating for two overlooking the gardens of Avoca Valley. Each suite contains a decent walk-in wardrobe, beach towels, hairdryer TV, AC and ceiling fan and ensuite.

The King Spa Suite was my home for the next couple of nights to unwind and escape the daily grind of the city. With a few accommodation packages available, you will be sure to find the right one.

So what kind of luxuries can you look forward to during your stay here?

Firstly, the biggest smile and warmest host you will ever meet!

Onsite parking and your own private entrance to the guest suites.

Down the hall, I like to call the ‘the night cap bar’, a sample shot of liqueur from Distillery Botanica and chocolate. Just one is enough to call it a night. If not, head over to Erina NSW, and visit the distillery yourself and meet Distiller Philip Moore. Taste and purchase Gold medal spirits like Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur, Lemon Myrtle Liqueur and Aniseed Myrtle Liqueur. Silver medals spirits of Moore’s Vintage Dry Gin, Skillion Blue Vodka, Mountain Pepperberry Liqueur and Absinthe Reverie.

Home cooked breakfast that is locally sourced, fresh home baked bread, free range eggs (I mentioned the chickens right?) and a fresh cup of Nespresso coffee or a loose leaf home specialty tea. Simply choose your breakfast option and time and head to the breakfast room. As the sunrises so does the room with its rays entering through the glass windows and the warmth echoes across the wooden floor.

You may not have a ‘restaurant’ as such to have lunch or dinner in-house. But, the compendium does offer a selection of restaurants to visit (or delivery) close by. However, they do offer a platters such as, cheese; seafood; mezze and choc dipped strawberries.

On the website, a two-course dinner for two at L’isle de France Restaurant in Terrigal is available in some of the packages. Even if you select the B&B getaway package, I highly recommend heading to the restaurant for lunch. Bernard is the owner and Chef Kavi is the man behind the kitchen that delivers a total food experience. A passion for French cuisine without all the fuss. Without giving too much away, try the Escargots des Tropiques, Bourguignon style beef cheeks and the passionfruit soufflé.

Looking for the best massage on the Central Coast and in the privacy of your own room. One hour massages by The Massage Spa is included is some of the packages, make sure you provide a preferred time to lock in your hour of bliss. Just to note, they do offer couple massages and other treatments, such as facials, manicures, pedicures and body treatments. Simply ask to add & pay for the extra services you want to experience.

With the Mind & Body Escape package, you can take the next level of chillaxness for two people. With a private 30min psychic reading by Georgie, an hour yoga session with Carolyn at the Tea House in the gardens, and a one hour beauty treatment. Who wouldn’t want to escape and revitalize your body and well-being?!

Avoca Valley Bed & Breakfast is unique and the service goes way beyond just providing you with a comfortable bed. Jo made me feel part of the family, happy to chat about experiences, travel and great tips on places to see in the area.

Where have you stayed for a change of pace?
