Whether you’re going to be up bright and early for the dawn service or taking the day off for some much-needed R&R, we’ve rounded up a bunch of places that are open on ANZAC Day this year.
Sydney CBD dawn service and march
The official NSW Anzac Dawn Service will take place at the Cenotaph in Martin Place from 4:30 am.
Members of the public are invited to access two standing areas via Pitt Street or George Street. Tickets are not required this year but those who have disabilities or limited mobility can contact organisers to reserve seating. The service will be live-streamed on the NSW government website and on the ABC.
The Sydney Anzac Day march up Elizabeth Street will begin at Martin Place at 9 am. The NSW RSL said it expects 12,000 to 15,000 veterans and their descendants to join the march after COVID-19 kept numbers to about 4000 last year.
Major roads will be closed in the Sydney CBD from 2 am to 4 pm. Free public transport will continue for all passengers on the Opal network until 4 am on Tuesday.

Play a round of Two-Up
Two-up is a traditional Aussie game, involving a designated “spinner” throwing two coins or pennies into the air. Players bet on whether the coins will fall with both heads (obverse) up, both tails (reverse) up, or with one coin a head and one a tail (known as “Ewan”). Wave your bank notes, place your bets and watch those sacred two-up coins fall. We recommend hitting up one of Sydney’s best pubs for a spirited crowd.
