One of the greatest pleasure of travelling around Australia or even the globe, is my curious taste for food and drinks. So when I heard Southern Comfort Travelling Tales Cocktail Competition in Australia to find the next preeminent, original cocktail.
Paying homage to the vibrant city of New Orleans, Travelling Tales invites bartenders from across the country to enter an original Southern Comfort-based cocktail inspired by an authentic story for their chance to be crowned Australia’s national champion.
This is how it works, the ten best entries in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia will be selected to compete in the State Finals from 9-17 May. They will go head-to-head for a place in the National Final to be held in Sydney on Tuesday 13 June, with two finalists progressing from each state.
Each cocktail and tale behind it will be judged by a panel of industry experts based on taste, presentation and originality. The winner will embark on a trip to New Orleans for the world’s premier cocktail festival, the 15th Annual ‘Tales of the Cocktail’. They will also experience an exclusive tour of the Southern Comfort Distillery and will make an honorary guest bartender appearance at one of the Big Easy’s top bars.
Southern Comfort Senior Brand Manager James Johnstone is looking forward to discovering the creations that will come out of this nationwide search.
“We’re taking the inaugural Travelling Tales Cocktail Competition back to Southern Comfort’s roots by welcoming bartenders to the never-ending party of the deep South. Southern Comfort is a unique spirit with a palette of flavours that is perfect for every occasion. We hope that this competition will highlight its versatility and encourage mixologists to tell their intriguing tale through their original cocktail recipes,” he said.
Travelling Tales is open to all bartenders. Entries open for the State Finals on 13 March and close on 16 April. Entries are limited to three (3) per person. To enter, visit southerncomfort.com/southernta
