Pizza Chefs at the Sub-Station Cafe

We made our way to the Sub-Station Café in Alexandria, to attend a special event of the Pizza Chefs. The Pizza Chefs cater to all kinds of events and celebrations and make pizzas in a mobile wood-fired oven. Ever thought of doe throwing, that’s a sight to be seen. The toppings on the night were limited to two toppings only. On the one hand, this is due to the thinness of the pizzas and on the other hand, the ingredients and flavours can be enjoyed properly. I must say, that they are right, sometimes less is more.

The Sub-Station Café is located in a small building that used to be an Electrical Sub-Station and then stood abandoned for a few years. This show that location gems are often overlooked. Even though the building is quite small, the owner made use of the adjoining alley between this and the next building. The little alley is closed off and can only be accessed through the café. An awning also functions as a sealing, which makes guests feel like they are inside, by also being outside. It actually causes the location to get the best of both worlds.

The interior of the café is rather rustic and minimalistic. There are not many seats for guests, however, this makes it just more exclusive. The decoration also shows the chef’s dedication and focus on the food he prepares.

The Sub-Station Café offers an interesting menu, with three special dishes each day, out of these three dishes, one changes every day. These special dishes are displayed on the counter, so that guests can see what to expect before ordering the food. The dishes are influenced by middle eastern cuisine, due to the owner being originally from Israel. I was able to try some of the dishes offered in the café and I especially liked the cauliflower variation. The cauliflower was only baked for a short amount of time, so that it wasn’t too soft. It was then topped off with whipped cream. Now you might ask “whipped cream?” Yes, the whipped cream was seasoned with garlic and it was absolutely delicious with the Cauliflower.

For desert, the chef brought out a mixed plate, of middle eastern deserts, gluten free brownies, ice cream and fruit. All the food and drinks we had were absolutely delicious and the Sub-Station Café is definitely worth a visit. For those who are planning a celebration and is looking for catering, the Pizza Chefs offer amazing food and remember the doe throwing, that will not be forgotten by your guests.

Pizza Chefs more than just a mobile pizza party catering company, delicious gourmet food which is affordable and suitable to all kinds of functions.
